On April 8, 2014 support for XP will end. This means that XP users will no longer receive free updates and security patches. XP users will become immediately vulnerable to malware viruses.
Most of the patches and updates that are released for Windows 7 & 8,also apply to XP. Once those patches are no longer available to XP users they will be unable to update their system for free. Hackers will be able to reverse engineer the patches and create viruses and malware that will affect XP systems.
Despite being 12 years old XP is still the second most popular operating system. Windows 7 is out in front but the number of XP systems that are still being used presents a serious problem when support ends. Most users are not aware that support for their operating system is coming to an end….or what the implications are.
With so many XP computers still in use, it is worth time and effort for hackers to create viruses and malware for the platform. It is therefore, wise to be proactive and upgrade any XP computers to Windows 7 or 8 before the end of 2013. This will allow time to rectify and deal with any issues that may result from the migration.
